Has COVID-19 put a halt on your career path?
Covid-19 has seen our lives turn upside down. From wearing masks, spending more time indoors and your final year of school probably not meeting your expectations. Finishing education can be a daunting experience, especially if it didn’t go the way you had planned. But rest assured, there is something out there for everyone. With hard work and planning, your career path can start anytime and anywhere.
Finding the right route of employment for you?
Apprenticeships
When you are in your final year of school or college, tutors can sometimes only drive the University path, making you think that this is the only route available. However, there are many options that can help propel you on the right career path. Apprenticeships may be perceived as only suitable options for careers in plastering or hair and beauty. However, there are so many apprenticeship opportunities out there including digital marketing, accounting, healthcare work, and more. With an apprenticeship, there are also different levels available, allowing you to work up to a degree level or jump in at a later stage (depending on qualifications & other experiences). While getting the qualifications that will expand your CV, you also get the hands-on experience that going to University rarely provides and you’re earning money.
Internships & work experience
Internships can be a great way to find out if the career you dreamed of is the right one for you. This period of work experience can last anywhere from a week to 12 months. During your placement, you’ll be able to gain the relevant skills for your dream job. You can apply for placements or simply approach a company that you could see yourself working for and enquire if they take on interns.
Traineeships
If everything explained above seems a little daunting or if you don’t know where to start, or feel you don’t have the right qualifications, Traineeships might be the answer. Traineeships offer training and work experience opportunities to help you get started on your career path, along with support with your functional skills.
These are just a few examples of the opportunities out there. Start researching and see what feels right for you. If you don’t know where to start, make a career profile listing your qualifications, work experience skills, and strengths; this can provide a basis for your CV as well.
