Samuel Adu joined the Steps to Employment programme at Calico Enterprise in January 2025 after moving from Germany to reunite with his family in Burnley.
From his very first meeting with Employment Coach Chris Marsh, Samuel demonstrated a strong commitment to finding work and building a future in the UK.
Samuel explained: “My wife introduced me to Chris and immediately, he offered to help with applications. Firstly, my CV was adjusted, and he helped me to apply for some jobs. He showed me some job sites and some job ideas”.
Thanks to Chris’s ongoing support, guidance, and encouragement, Samuel successfully secured a role as a Support Worker in a residential care home – a position that allows him to make a meaningful difference every day.
Support Worker, Samuel, said: “It has not been easy but with his support and motivations that has brought us far”.
Samuel’s wife, Nicole, also benefited from the programme. Having moved from Germany to the UK in early 2024, she worked closely with Chris to gain confidence and direction in her job search, eventually securing employment with Lancashire County Council.
Sam added: “Early last year, Nicole told me she met Chris at a community centre in Burnley. She overheard him talking with someone, and later chatted with him about jobs. She was asked to bring her CV so he could amend it. That made it easy for her to apply and get a job”.
Both Samuel and Nicole are now thriving in their new roles and are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support they received from Chris and the Steps to Employment team at Calico Enterprise.

He continued: “Seeing both husband and wife successfully gain employment through the Steps to Employment programme has been truly inspiring proof of what’s possible with the right support and a shared goal “.
Their journey highlights the power of tailored employment support in helping families settle, succeed, and contribute meaningfully to their community.
Speaking on behalf of his wife Nicole too, Samuel concluded: “We both see Chris as an amazing and dedicated person helping people in the community and we recommend him and Steps to Employment strongly to everyone out there looking for jobs. Thank you to Chris Marsh!”.
