Calico Enterprise head out for National Employability Day

Calico Enterprise headed out and about in Burnley town centre last week to offer support and advice on National Employability Day.

Whether people were looking for a new job, a career change or just needed some advice on seeking work, the group spent the day at Charter Walk Shopping Centre offering friendly support from their ‘employability day’ trailer outside M&S and stall on Sensory Walk.

Chris Lofthouse, Senior Employment Coach at Calico Enterprise, said: “It was fantastic to be celebrating National Employability Day once again my third time since joining Calico Enterprise.”

“It’s a brilliant opportunity to showcase the amazing work we do and raise awareness of the employability support we offer to individuals and communities”.

Calico Enterprise supports people in Burnley and Padiham through their popular Steps to Employment scheme, which helps people through employability skills, job search support and employer engagement.

For those struggling with health-related employment issues, Calico Enterprise also run WorkWell alongside Burnley Council.

WorkWell aims to help people with low level health conditions, including back and knee pain, as well as low level mental health conditions such as anxiety and stress, by providing support and advice on maintaining or seeking employment.

Carla Rathbone, Work + Health Coach at Calico Enterprise, said: “We have a really holistic approach to supporting people. We’re very much led by the person and what they want from us”.

Carla continued: “We’re just introducing WorkWell to people and getting the word out. We think there are a lot more people who need supporting than are already receiving support at the moment – so today is all about advertising our services”.

National Employability Day is a UK-wide campaign that takes place annually to celebrate and showcase the work of organizations and individuals who support people into employment.

Seb Burton, Trainee Work + Health Coach, said: “We’re also here to support young people aged 18-24 who are looking at getting into work. We help with CVs, job search and interview prep”.

Carla concluded: “We’ve had a couple of referrals today, so we’ll find out if WorkWell really does work well for them”.
