The Building Better Opportunities project which helped thousands of people across Lancashire overcome barriers to employment has come to an end. Calico Enterprise was the delivery partner for the project in East Lancashire, helping hundreds of people back into work.
The National Lottery and European Social Fund allocated approximately £12.5 million to Lancashire to tackle poverty, promote social inclusion, drive jobs and local growth. Led by Selnet, the project was initially due to end in 2020 but was extended to March 2023 on the back of Brexit to support a transition period following the funding coming to an end.
Offering vital support in areas such as employability skills, training, emotional well-being and financial inclusion, the project provided programmes such as the Age of Opportunity which was designed to help over 50’s back into work and Changing futures supported people at high risk of social exclusion.

The success of these projects is largely attributed to the passion of the team and being part of a brilliant partnership of providers. We have learnt a lot about the strength of collaboration and that impact that can be achieved.’
